Transitional Kitchens

Transitional kitchen cabinets include elements of both traditional and contemporary design. eclectic in nature, they mix natural and man-made materials as well as finishes and textures.  The Transitional kitchen design palette relies on a lack of color to evoke a clean, serene atmosphere. Dark brown transitional kitchen cabinets add depth to the neutral balance of taupe, tan and vanilla. A minimalist approach is taken with accessories.

For example, an Arts & Crafts or Shaker kitchen can be made transitional rather than traditional by lightening the color palette, adding bamboo flooring, and showcasing appliances rather than hiding them with panels.

The fabric used to upholster the banquette seating plays off the pattern of the tile backsplash. Maple Shaker cabinets blend with caramelized bamboo flooring, and dark granite counters pull it all together.

Rather than a range, this transitional kitchen features a 30-inch KitchenAid wall oven  mounted into the base cabinets, topped by a 36-inch gas cooktop.

Traditional details such as raised-panel glazed maple cabinetry blend with modern touches like the suspended stainless steel ventilation hood. The 10-foot-long, multilevel island allows plenty of space in this kitchen for food preparation and dining.
