Traditional Style KitchensTraditional kitchen cabinets have a formal, elegant look characteristic of American and European homes of the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries. Traditional kitchen cabinet design plays up architectural details such as crown moldings, raised wood paneling and rich, deep colors to enhance the mood and traditional feel. Dark stains, honey tones, semi-opaque paints, wicker baskets, and oak cabinets add to the usually more formal feel than country style. In Traditional kitchen cabinets expect to see more ornate molding and trim; elegant cabinets in cherry, walnut and mahogany; and antique fixtures and appliances. Here are some examples: This kitchen island features rich cherry wood with a black glaze and furniture-like moldings. The lighter perimeter cabinetry and the bright white tin ceiling serve as a cheery contrast to the island. Individual touches like a tumbled marble and glass backsplash, pierced metal light fixtures and playful window treatments give this room a whimsical character. Glass-paneled cabinets with in-cabinet lights highlight decorative dishware and artwork. Achieve a country manor look with stone walls, lamp-style chandeliers and wood cabinets with a dark brown stain. A 60-inch Wolf range with turned legs on either side, accompanied by a tile backsplash with display niche and wooden hood with a mantel, directs all eyes toward this cooking center. A tall pantry cabinet combined with glass-door upper cabinets, open shelving and a wine rack serves as both a china hutch and wet bar. A 4-inch-high mosaic tile backsplash, black countertop, and black traditionally styled faucet and bar sink polish off the space. Flat-panel cherry wood cabinetry in a Victorian cherry stain on the wall and base units, rope and crown molding, and the decorative ceiling coffer. Pear-colored walls and multi-hued narrow-plank floors keep the kitchen from getting too dark. Custom birch cabinetry features a painted butter cream finish with a brown glaze. Egg-and-dart molding paired with 3-inch crown molding complements the cabinets’ inset doors with beaded face frames.
